Giovanni Pellegrini (Venice, 1981) is a documentary director, screenwriter, cinematographer, and producer. Describing himself as “born in a boat”—a phrase often used by Venetian sailors—he began his career as a naturalistic guide in the Venetian lagoon before graduating in documentary filmmaking from Italian National Film School in 2012.
Pellegrini’s work explores the relationship between humans and the environment, combining a strong visual style with a distinctive focus on music and sound.
In 2018, Pellegrini founded the production company Ginko Film. He currently lives and works in Venice, a city to which he has dedicated his last films: Origin (pre-opening film at the 82. Venice Film Festival, made in collaboration with French director Yann Arthus-Bertrand), Lagunaria (Torino Cinemambiente 2023), City of Sirens (Torino Cinemambiente 2021), and Aquagranda in Crescendo (Venice Days 2017).
