Ahmed Awadalla
Germany

Madi Awadalla is a German-Egyptian filmmaker, writer, and transdisciplinary artist. Through the prism of the body, desire, and disease, their work explores the life of power, crafting counter-narratives that illuminate hidden histories and structures of control. Awadalla’s debut short documentary Queer Exile (2024) has screened at international festivals across Europe and beyond, where it was awarded and nominated for the First Steps Awards 2025. With a background in community healthcare and years of working alongside marginalized communities, from queer groups to displaced people, Awadalla brings an embodied sensitivity to their film practice. Their filmmaking combines archival research, personal storytelling, and collective memory, expanding the possibilities of documentary form while refusing simplistic representations. They hold an MSc in Health History from the University of Strathclyde.
