Giovanni Pellegrini
Italy
Giovanni Pellegrini (Venice, 1981) is an Italian documentary director, cinematographer, and producer. Describing himself as ""born in a boat"" -a phrase often used by Venetian sailors- he began his career as a naturalistic guide in the Venetian lagoon before graduating in documentary filmmaking from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (National Film School) in 2012.
Pellegrini’s works explore the relationship between humans and the environment, combining a strong visual style with a distinctive focus on music and sound. His documentaries have been screened and awarded at major international festivals across the globe, including Locarno Film Festival, Venice Days, GFF San Francisco, HRFF San Sebastián, EFFA Melbourne, and Visioni Italiane Bologna.
He currently lives and works in Venice, a city to which he has dedicated his last three films — Aquagranda in Crescendo (Venice Days 2017), City of Sirens (Torino Cinemambiente 2021), and Lagunaria (Torino Cinemambiente 2023) — and where in 2018 he founded the production company Ginko Film.
