Revitalizing the Non-urban: the transformative power of space and community

This project tells the story of individuals in rural Eastern Germany and Upper Austria who are actively working to revitalize their communities through the creation and management of creative hubs. These hubs—spaces that bring together local residents, creative professionals, and entrepreneurs—are vital in reawakening dormant potential in rural areas.

Through in-depth audio interviews, the project gives voice to those at the forefront of this transformation, capturing their personal motivations, challenges, and triumphs. These personal narratives, woven together, reflect the broader societal changes taking place in these communities, from the impact of migration and rural depopulation to the challenges of entrepreneurship in remote areas.

While the interviews provide a snapshot of a specific moment in time, they also initiate a larger, ongoing conversation about how creative initiatives can inspire social change.
