We follow our story through the cultural landscapes of Pasvik, into the digital forests of videogames, and into the digital forest of our own making. Here we meet researchers, locals, characters and observe material remnants from the analog and digital sites. Standing in front of our cabin at Lake Ellentjørn, we see figures in the mist that remind us of our past surroundings. On the mission to free a resistance fighter in Battlefield V, we ski through snowy landscapes. A stereotypical image of Norway, but to see the remnants of Norway's occupation by the Third Reich, we have to visit Pasvik Valley in the summer. An arctic summer is known to be meticulously short: for the Skolt Sámi it used to be the busy period of gathering food before the winter. We see their marks on a tree, left a long time ago. A German fox hole in a Sámi hunting pit. Layers of concrete timelessness where only yesterday a metal detectorist left the lid of a beer bottle. How do we choose to preserve these traces?
