Armands actively works as a documentary and fiction director and editor. He has received two national film awards for Best Editing (My Father the Spy and January), a national award for Best Documentary Director for his debut documentary, Mothers and Others (shared with Liene Linde), and a national award for Best Short Fiction Film for Resistance is Futile.

Armands participated in the Nordic Film Days Future North initiative, the Dok Incubator workshop, and developed his debut fiction feature in the Midpoint Feature Launch programme.

His latest work in the documentary field is a collaboration with Ivars Seleckis, the oldest still-active Latvian documentary director. Their film, To Be Continued: Teenhood, premiered at IDFA and was also screened at the Trieste Film Festival.
