Mert Kaya

Mert Kaya is a documentary filmmaker and video artist with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Film and Media Studies from Boğaziçi University. His interest in cinema is deriving from my motivation to discuss social issues with a visual medium. His first film, Love is Over (2017), premiered at the 36th IKSV Istanbul Film Festival and won the JvdK New Talent Award at the 10th Documentarist Istanbul Documentary FF. As a video artist, he contributed to Side by Side (2021), featured in the main exhibition of the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale. He also produced DEPO.Tophane.Istanbul (2022) as part of a short film initiative supported by the Bertha Foundation. Most recently, he directed Carrying Water to the River (2023), a documentary for Anadolu Kültür’s 20th anniversary, reflecting on art and cultural dialogue in Turkey.
