United Kingdom

Austen is a Producer/ Director with a background as a hands-on shooting PD, DoP and editor. He deeply values the generosity and trust of his contributors and is passionate about telling intimate human stories from alternative perspectives that resonate with a global audience. Austen co-founded Melt the Fly with filmmaking partner and co-Director, Will Hewitt. Here he writes, produces, directs and shoots creative documentaries. Austen is ambitious and creative yet mindful of organisation, and the same gregarious personality that helps him to form relationships with contributors and crew is developing into a confidence when connecting with Intnl. Filmmakers and pitching to Decision Makers. Austen’s entry into creative documentary has been a steep learning curve - from the commission of his first documentary for BBC Scotland in 2018, to selection for the SDI’s 2020 Bridging the Gap program and development finance and an acquisition deal for his first feature doc, A Sense of Tumour.
